Background: Born in New Orleans, LA--raised in Natchez, MS. After many years of being a Naval Officer’s wife and traveling the country, settled down in Texarkana over 40 years ago. Have four children and 7 grandchildren.

Volunteer Work: First United Methodist Church Texarkana, AR – Sunday School teacher and Bible School teacher for many years, sang in the choir for many years, President of UMW – local and district. TISD – PTA President for Highland Park Elementary, Pine Street Junior High and Texas High PTSA President for two terms. City Council PTA President twice, Room Mother for many years, Prom Mom for two years. State and National PTA Life Membership, etc.

Children’s Things: Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader, Soccer, Baseball and Football Mom Leadership Texarkana Graduate – Class project was Texarkana Downtown Pocket Park.

Literacy Council: Founder in 1986, Recognized by YWCA as Women of the year in Education, Leadership Texarkana Wilbur Award for Work in Education, Recognized by State of AR with Literacy State Leadership Award, Recognized by HandsOn Texarkana and Masonic Grand Lodge of Texas with Community Leaders Awards. Texas A&M Distinguished Alumni Award.

Literacy Council of Bowie & Miller Counties Inc.

Richard Seymour is the Program Coordinator for the Literacy Council of Bowie & Miller Counties Inc., he manages and coordinates staff, activities, and functions of the learning centers to ensure that goals and objectives specified for the program are accomplished in accordance with established priorities, time limitations, funding limitations and/or other specifications. He currently serves on the Homeless Coalition and Workforce Solutions Board of Directors.

Prior to moving to the Texarkana area and joining the Literacy Council of Bowie & Miller Council Inc. in 2009, he worked for AT&T Emerging Technologies and Unisource World Wide as a Sales Representative.

Mr. Seymour received and AAS in Marketing & Management from South Plains College, BAAS in Organizational Leadership, and finishing (2012) his MBA from Texas A&M University – Texarkana.
